Guys, I swear it's not that cold... 🇩🇪

After a few unforgettable days in Berlin, we were ready to experience another side of Germany.
Our journey south to Munich was about more than just changing cities; it was about discovering a region known for its deep-rooted traditions, historic charm, and iconic culture. Of course, we couldn’t miss a visit to the Bavarian Alps — where we had a magical (and very chilly) swim in the pouring rain.
This adventure felt incredibly freeing and reminded me why I love traveling so much — it’s the moments we create along the way that stay with us.
Day Ten Munich, Germany 🇩🇪
📍6 hour train ride Berlin ➡️ Munich
📍Sendlinger Tor
📍Asam Church
📍Marienplatz
📍Rathaus-Glockenspiel
📍Strolled through Hofgarten
📍Hofbräuhaus
After our long train ride from Berlin, we arrived in Munich ready to explore. We hopped off the train and walked straight to our hostel, which ended up being our favourite stay of the entire trip. We stayed at Euro Youth Hostel, located in a historic building near the main train station that notably survived World War II. The rooms were amazing, we met some lovely travellers along the way, and the hostel bar quickly became a highlight—affordable drinks, fun nightly activities, and overall great vibes.
Once we dropped off our bags, grabbed a quick shower, and started some laundry, we headed back out to explore. We mostly ignored my original itinerary and instead wandered aimlessly, letting the city guide us.
We stumbled upon a beautiful garden near Sendlinger Tor and spent some time walking around and taking photos. The area was filled with people picnicking and relaxing, made even better by the warm, sunny day. We then made our way to Marienplatz, a must-see while in Munich. We ended up stopping here each day to watch the clock re-enact scenes from the city’s history.
Before heading back to the hostel, we stopped at Hofbräuhaus for a pint and a delicious strudel. The music and energy inside were so special, and we loved finally getting to experience it for ourselves.
Day Eleven Erding, Germany 🇩🇪
I only have a couple of photos from today, as we spent most of our time unwinding at the world’s largest thermal spa. Josh found this spot, and I’m so grateful he added it to our travel plans. It was a bit of a trek from Munich with a few small transit hiccups along the way but it was absolutely worth it.
The spa itself was massive, and we even squeezed in some time at the waterpark to try out a few slides. It ended up being a much-needed day to slow down, recharge, and simply relax together. To end the day we attended our hostels trivia night with a few drinks of course. Then an early nights sleep for a long day trip ahead.
Day Twelve Bavaria, Germany 🇩🇪
📍Neuschwanstein Castle
📍Swan Lake for a dip 🥶
📍Schlossbrauhaus for lunch
📍Heimwerk for dinner 🥨
Once we arrived in the village of Schwangau, we hopped on our bikes and pedalled through the streets in the rain before stopping at Swan Lake.

Set in the Bavarian Alps, near the iconic Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle, I decided to jump straight into the freezing cold waters of Alpsee (Swan Lake) and truly live my best life. At first, only two other people joined me, until I eventually convinced Josh to come in as well. It was easily one of the coolest things I have ever done and a moment I know I will never forget. Many of the other travellers asked where I was from and proudly said Canada.
After warming back up, we enjoyed a delicious lunch in the village and finally tried schnitzel, which felt very fitting for the day.
Next, we began our hike up to Neuschwanstein Castle, and it was no easy climb. There was a moment when I honestly did not think I was going to make it, but I pushed through and reached the top. The views were absolutely incredible, and we even crossed MarienbrĂĽcke for breathtaking views of the castle.
Fun fact: the Disneyland Sleeping Beauty Castle was inspired by Neuschwanstein Castle. Walt Disney visited the castle, which was commissioned by King Ludwig II, and used its architectural style as inspiration for the castle in his theme park.
Lastly, we went inside the castle to see the stunning architecture and detailed paintings that completely blew our minds. You are not allowed to take photos inside, which makes it something you truly have to experience for yourself.

Day Thirteen Munich, Germany 🇩🇪
📍 Katzentempel - Vegan cat café
📍 Viktualiemarkt
📍Climbed St. Peter Church
Today we woke up to one final rainy morning in Germany before heading off for our flight to Barcelona.
We started the day with breakfast at Katzentempel, a vegan cat café I found online. We were definitely missing our boys, so getting to spend some time with the cats who live full-time at the café felt extra comforting.
With a bit of time to spare before heading to the airport, we wandered through Viktualienmarkt to grab a few snacks before climbing St. Peter Church. It was another steep climb, but we made it. Josh, who is very afraid of heights, chose not to step out onto the balcony, but I did so I could take in the view of Marienplatz from above.
After that, we hopped on the train to head straight to the airport, where we ran into yet another travel hiccup and had to get off a few stops early. With hundreds of people stranded and trying to figure out their next move, a lovely gentleman from Newcastle offered to share his Uber with us to the airport. The ride flew by as we chatted about our travels, and of course he mentioned that Canada is on his bucket list.
Throughout this trip, we have met some of the kindest people, and it has made me incredibly grateful for the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world.
Next stop, Barcelona.
